Back in the timeframe of this PR I'd sometimes get crashes when OOMing also;
these went away a few years later after a variety of fixes to uvm and to
genfs_putpages. So I'm inclined to consider this issue "probably fixed".
Have you seen it in a more recent (or better yet, still supported) release?
