 I might also note that my crash happened almost immediately after running 
"make 
 install" in one of the pkgsrc dirs (which is actually NFS mounted as 
 /home/pkgsrc, i.e. just to share same home and pkgsrc with two hosts). "make 
 clean" just before did not cause any problems.
 
 One reason for the quick crash could be that my host only has 512 MB RAM (it's 
 a virtual machine inside VMware ESXi).
