        Hello,

Julian Coleman asked me to try out whether this change ...

... fixes my problem. And it seems to help. I still get error message
when brining up the interfaces ...

bge0: firmware handshake timed out, val = 4b657654
bge0: firmware handshake timed out, val = 4b657654

... but it is now usable:

 PING 192.168.25.111 (192.168.25.111): 56 data bytes
 64 bytes from 192.168.25.111: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=0.560 ms

The occasional high RTTs (both machines are connected to the same
 Gigabit switch) are however worrying.

        Kind regards
