Log Message:
 * reflect the fact that kernels might be compiled for either source
   updates or for customisation. Include a step to update
   tarball-extracted sources from anoncvs if needed

 * move the process outline to the top, and the fetching of sources to
   be a proper step within the described process

 * nest the manual-building steps as subsections, to make the flow
   between manual or build.sh steps clearer

 * put the install as a separate step, joining paths again at the end
   after the manual/build.sh divergence and avoiding messy references

 * general rewording and descriptive improvements
