Funny that - I seem to have the opposite problem (netbsd-9):

[ 4.030492] radeondrmkmsfb0 at radeon0
[ 4.030492] radeondrmkmsfb0: framebuffer at 0xffff8180b00ae000,
size 1920x1080, depth 32, stride 7680
[ 4.080511] no data for est. mode 640x480x67
[ 4.130530] wsdisplay0 at radeondrmkmsfb0 kbdmux 1: console
(default, vt100 emulation), using wskbd0
[ 4.155163] wsmux1: connecting to wsdisplay0

even though the display says

[ 81.998] (II) RADEON(0): Supported detailed timing:
[ 81.998] (II) RADEON(0): clock: 241.5 MHz Image Size: 708 x 398
