Putting a monochrome daemon image in the center of the screen instead of 
repeating that pattern over and over again should be more or less trivial, it 
wouldn't need any scaling or anything fancy that isn't already in place for the 
old background.
( and yes, it would look kind of Apple-ish which might not be a bad thing )
