You write about what -R is documented to do but then show what -r does.
I assume -r and -R are the same, as they are in every version I have
easy access to (9.1, 5.2, and 1.4T), but it might be worth mentioning
it explicitly when doing a silent switch like that.
I too agree that either the doc or the code needs to be fixed. It
seems to me that the more elaborate behaviour is more useful (in which
case it's the code that needs fixing), though I'm not sure whether I
think it's enough so to override if POSIX says otherwise.
