Coming back to an old thread from September 2024, about shell word
aka field splitting ...

thanks again for your emails by then.
But i had to run away and came back after so many months with
a fresh view, and then i saw the problem within five minutes; in
the end it was mostly a three line fix about passing "having seen
whitespace" from the first to the second parsing step, as well as
about the "is joining allowed" state in general, in the second.
