That was a week ago.  The response to my question has been
underwhelming.  So, which of the following is it?

 1) What a stupid idea - not worth responding to.
 2) What a great idea - go ahead and commit.
 3) Great idea but don't modify third party code.  Wait for
the openssh people to update.
 4) What the hell are you posting to tech-userlevel for?
try posting to [????].
 5) What did you expect?  We're still recovering from our
New Year's Eve parties.
