Yes, I ran into some cases where I couldn't find any other way myself.
I'd love to be able to get rid of them entirely - while I'm a slightly
concerned about compatability, it's only slightly, or I wouldn't be
writing in -mandoc to begin with.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that I ocacsionally want
things -mandoc has no way to describe.  (The commonest is vertical
space - "a blank line" - which is surprisingly hard to get.)  I'm not
sure whether I think that would outweigh the other benefits of getting
rid of roff....
