Take, for example, a Sun 3/50 or similar box and install NetBSD.

1. set up netbooting
2. set up NFS root with a directory including all of the NetBSD install tars
3. netboot
4. use disklabel and newfs to setup partitions
5. mount disks
6. use tar or pax to install NetBSD
7. write bootstrap to sd0
8. unmount disk(s), halt system, boot from disk

The syspkgs scenario doesn't fit all systems.
