You can wrap your pop or imap server in stunnel:

You can also redirect your clients in a similar fashion.  However,
the fetchmail client has support for SSL built-in. There was no
automatic way of specifying rsaref earlier. Now that there is, it
would be nice to have the netbsd package assist in specifying it
as ssh, etc. currently does.
