Is gdb using its own old BFD tree?

A user has reported a coredump of firefox52 on earmv7hf (RPI). He
reported too, warnings about incorrect strings entries in .strtab past
the end of the section.

After verifying, I found that the .strtab warnings are not coming from
ld.bfd but are emitted by gdb(1).

This incorrect behavior has been fixed in Aug 2019 and is not seen with
ld.bfd in the 9.x.

Has gdb its own copy of the BFD tree, explaining that these warnings on
arm32 are still emitted?
