Hi,

There is an open PR (misc/28533) which I believe is incorrectly
set with the category "misc" (and, if I'm correct, should be
"toolchain" ... which is why I'm posting here ... as always, if
I'm on the wrong list, please let me know and I'll happily
re-post elsewhere).

The original problem was reported against i386 running a 2.99.10
kernel, but I'm experiencing an identical issue running 2.0
GENERIC (upgraded from 1.6 from CD image) whilst trying to
build.sh distribution (for a check-out of netbsd-2-0) as a
non-root user.

The failure is:

./build.sh -O ../obj -T ../tools -U -u distribution
[...]
nbinstall: MAKEDEV: stat: No such file or directory

*** Failed target: install-etc-files
*** Failed command: cd /usr/src/../obj/etc && STRIP=/usr/src/../tools/bin/i386--netbsdelf-strip /usr/src/../tools/bin/nbinstall -U -M /usr/src/../obj/destdir.i386/METALOG -D /usr/src/../obj/destdir.i386 -h sha1 -N /usr/src/etc -c -p -r -T etc_pkg -o root -g wheel -m 555 MAKEDEV /usr/src/../obj/destdir.i386/dev
*** Error code 1

Has anyone else experienced this or come up with a workaround?
If necessary, I suppose I can upgrade to -current, but since this
is my workstation, I'd prefer a little bit more stability than
that, and, if I understand
http://www.netbsd.org/Changes/#branches-explained correctly, then
netbsd-2-0 is where I want to stay to do periodic builds for
catching security fixes, etc....

Any help is much appreciated.

TIA,
Chris
