Consider, the base sources were extensively modified to work with a
   no-defaults compiler. Do we really want to do that to "xsrc", which
   currently builds essentially out-of-the-box, the top-level makefile
   being essentially a handful of scripts?


actually, i have a work-in-progress to use the supported-by-xfree
cross compile stuff.  it doesn't quite work yet but i think it will
once i manage to find more copious spare time (just as soon as my
mac stops hanging i'll be _fine_ ....)
