I don't think so, because if you're developing on a NetBSD system you'll use
the BSD makefile, not the autoconf-generated one.
How I understood it is that autoconf was used only when building NetBSD
tools on non-NetBSD (or old NetBSD) systems, in which case the autoconf in
-current won't help you.
Or maybe I've missed something.
