NetBSD-current contains egcs 1.1.1.  A major compiler change won't happen in
a patch release such as 1.3.4; it will show up in 1.4[.0].

This is not in the scope of this (mail) thread - but as a point of
information, NetBSD is not going down the "libc_r" route, precluding much of
what you're saying here.
