GCC 2.8 does the same. I believe (but not tested) that with the latest
changes to the code 
kern/5333: "GCC 2.8.1 complains about missing parenteses in if-else"
can be closed and port-mac68k/5334 needs to be closed really soon. 
I would test it but my computer is still in 
boxes after the move and telephone is not connected yet.
