Yes, curiously enough, my ex0 has always worked fine.

But as you say, the fxp0 seems to work whenever it's not
configured via the ioapic device, but doesn't generate any
interrupts when it is using it.  <naive question> Is there a
way of asking fxp0 not to use it?
