Hi,

I thought that this item would be somewhere on a faq or list but I've
searched many places and haven't found the answer. The problem is that I
start snort up in daemon mode, e.g. "/usr/pkg/etc/rc.d/snort start" and
it goes through its steps and appears on a ps readout for about a minute
and then it dies. /var/log/messages gives no indication as to why it
died, just messages about the configuration. I had a similar experience
with debian sarge on another machine recently but an update to snort
seemed to fix that. Until it was fixed I could only run it in non daemon
mode. So, I'm giving up and asking you all, why is the snort daemon
dying on me?

Please cc to my email address since I haven't subscribed to the list.

thanks,
jeff
