Does anyone know of a good way to, in a configure script, autodetect if we
have MIT or Heimdal kerberos?

What I'd like to do is make it so that all a user has to do is say
--with-krb5, and the right one will be chosen, rather than say having to
do --with-mit-krb5 or --with-heimdal.
