I did something that seemed like it ought to work if one didn't think hard, and ended up wrongly committing on pkgsrc-2014Q4 instead. cd /usr/pkgsrc/bootstrap cvs up -A README.MacOSX # Note that the file itself is updated with the HEAD RCSId # but that the CVS/Tags files is unchanged emacs -nw README.MacOSX # commit from within emacs So obviously the answer is "don't do this", but perhaps -A and -r should error if not applied to whole directories.
