Defined in pkgsrc/mk/defaults/mk.conf

See PREFER_PKGSRC. I think these were from some time when NetBSD's (or 
other platform's) own versions of these were not good enough.

I wonder if we should get rid of these defaults:

PREFER_PKGSRC?=	MesaLib Xft2 Xrandr Xrender expat fontconfig \
		freetype2 glu randrproto renderproto xcursor
