I built in DMX (from pkgsrc-wip), IIRC, with xorg-server-1.2.0,
perhaps 8-12 months ago.  Unfortunately, I didn't have the hardware to
test it.  I didn't know there was a lack of a maintainer, but I'm not
surprised.

Could you explain what it is you're trying to accomplish?  Maybe
there's another X.org facility which can suit your needs.
