But is this problem ever encountered unless someone tries to
[purposefully] build a modular X.org package which has the conditional
include of x11.b3.mk in its b3.mk?  Where would you put such a
warning?  I suppose the most sensible first step would be to add
information about this to the pkgsrc guide. ;)

I really hate that gnome-config warning, FWIW.  Maybe we should patch
pkg-config to have it emit a warning that actually means something to
the "uninitiated".  What does gnome-config have to do with anything in
this case?
