I forgot to mention that I have had a few emails to me saying that the 
update fixed problems where the bootstrap was broken on some platforms. 
(So it fixed for some and broke for some.)

Thank you. Also, I had asked for feedback for testing patches over a month 
ago and since I didn't get feedback and the testing I did on three 
operating systems worked for me, I just committed.
