What if you don't apply your patch to x11/fixesext/builtin.mk and then set

PREFER_PKGSRC=yes

in your mk.conf and try building your packages again. Will this build the
required packages without errors?

PS. I was going to test it myself on Solaris, but I'm currently building
www/firefox on slow Ultra 10
