gtk+1 and gtk+2 have different ABIs and some software has not been
rewritten to use the newer version. gtk+1 is said to be more lightweight.
My systems still have old version because I use glib and dillo, xpdq,
xmms, sylpheed-claws, and more. (I see that sylpheed uses gtk2 now maybe I
should switch to it. Or maybe sylpheed-claws will use gtk2 soon.)
It is now obsolete yet...
