I think (just think) it's just a solaris problem. There is a pkg-config in
solaris 10:

<root@u2: 534> ls -l /usr/bin/pkg-config 
-rwxr-xr-x   1 root     other     100892 Jan 23  2005 /usr/bin/pkg-config*
