It is Linux x86 and I am sure that I am using bmake:

/usr/bin/make -> /usr/pkg/bin/bmake

Usage: bmake [-Beiknqrst] [-D variable] [-d flags] [-f makefile ]
            [-I directory] [-j max_jobs] [-m directory] [-V variable]
            [variable=value] [target ...]

As you can see there is no -C switch
