it would be nice to change the directory names at some point.

Right now its confusing.

mysql-{client,server} is 4.0.x
mysql-{client,server}4 is 4.1.x

So you get the older version if you think that mysql-client4 is the 4.0 and
mysql-client is the latest stable version.

As stated on the mysql homepage: MySQL 4.1, the latest certified production-ready release
