It seems nobody who is interested in this package took the time
to upgrade it.

Just use send-pr(1) to provide updates for packages you're interested
in. Or if there are problems with a package you're interested in in
the gnats PR database (www.netbsd.org/Gnats/category/pkg.html) then
feel free to provide solutions.

More support from users is always welcome...
