that's precisely why I suggested the change.

we are now effectively forcing our ways on users/platforms that
relaxed such requirements a long time ago, for absolutely *no* gain.
that doesn't make sense to me, and pkgsrc should not proceed any
further down this path without being absolutely sure this is what we
want to do.

imho, this is not what we want to do.
