It would be nice if wip/smlnj-current is imported. I think any one 
writing new programs should use that version and not the old one. 
(Isabelle is now configured to the new version also.)

Wip/smlnj-current is working fine so it could be imported.

However, there's a large set of patches which is in two places.

Do you think the patches controlling CFLAGS variable are necessary?
I think it has no benefit and makes maintenance more difficult.
