Eric, that was exactly the reason why I split gnome-core into multiple
parts. I now have gnome1 and gnome2 installed side-by side without
problems. Could you try to explain to me what your problems are?

Please do not commit these patches at the moment. They don't solve
the coexistence problems for people using xpkgwedge (which will become
the default for pkgsrc!).
I don't mind patches that make them coexist, but these would neet to
work with and without xpkgwedge ...
