after looking at the config.log, i found that the configure script was 
hardcoded to use -lqt instead of -lqt-mt what we have on netbsd.  after that, 
(and some other hackery to bypass the configure script's only allowing 
-lqt-my on linux) it worked.  thanks for the help.
