Hi,

is /var/run/ available for creation of .pid files on all supported
platforms?
I know OpenBSD, FreeBSD and Solaris have it,  MacOS X/Darwin probably as
well, but what about the various Linux flavours and IRIX? HP-UX and
Tru64?
