It wouldn't surprise me.  gnome-vfs2 appears to be completely
broken on NetBSD.  Just look at the gnome-panel package.  It
works just fine except for the menu, which shows only the Desktop
Preferences submenu, and even that one is empty.  I think the URL
for that is system-menu:/// though i don't really remember.  It's
been a long time since i looked into gnome-vfs2's problems.

It's hard to test, too, since we don't have nautilus where we can
just enter gnome-vfs URLs.  Hmm, maybe FreeBSD has some patches
for this...
