FWIW: I'd rather not see that as a default.  As Dave Burgess points out,
it's nice to geerally know that pkg stuff goes in /usr/pkg, rather than
poking itself by default into whatever nook or cranny the package creator
thought best.

(Note, however, that some packages, e.g. tetex, send stuff to
non-/usr/pkg/ directors.  tetex's fonts now wind up in /var/ for some
reason; they *used* to go to /usr/pkg/.  I'm not sure why tetex was
changed, but my /var by chance is big enough that this isn't a major issue
for me.)
