Subject: www/mozilla build on sparc seems to need a custom kernel....

[[ since this is probably mostly a port-sparc issue I've set the
reply-to appropriately -- please honour it ]]
I finally got brave enough to try "make package" on my development sparc
system (1.5W-current 2001/06/24). It eventually died though before
finishing:
panic: malloc: out of space in kmem_map
Now this machine has 287 MB of RAM, and I think that may be partly
related given my recent experience with trying to tune an older i386
kernel to handle several larger jobs on larger-memory systems.
I'm going to try locking down NBUF and BUFPAGES:
options NBUF=1200 # buffer headers
options BUFPAGES="(28*1024*1024/CLBYTES)" # 10% of RAM
I'll report back on how this goes (why does an SS-20 with SM71 and all
that RAM seem so slow these days!?!?!? ;-)
Here's dmesg.boot from the GENERIC kernel:
