What would work on hell of a lot better would be if there were an option
in "library" modules, such as png, to disable the less-than-smart and
counter-productive use of shared libraries. If packages using common
libraries all statically linked against those libraries then none of
them would have to "depend" on the library at install time -- only at
build time, and everyone would be a *LOT* happier!
(Which is, I think, at least a good part of the reason why you have to
end up re-installing so much on M$ systems -- shared libraries *SUCK*
when it comes to handling dependencies unless you have a rock-solid
mechanism for having many different versions installed simultaneously.)
