Subject: How do MD5 checksums get generated in packages? (ssh)

I'm trying to recompile ssh. It died after the deinstall, and so I have no
ssh on that machine right now.
One of the checksums appeared to be off, I filed a pr, and it was fixed,
but I'd really like to get ssh working since I won't have access to the
fixed file until tomorrow morning my time.
What sort of hacks-by-hand can I do? I thought about just editing the
checksum file, but the checksums I generate don't appear to be correct.
