Something wrong with tcpdump -x?  Telnet protocol is actually quite
simple, simple enough you can read it in a hex datastream dump with a
little practice learning the commonest byte-after-IAC values.  (Or at
least I can, and I would expect anyone anywhere near christos's skill
level could.)
