yes, of course.

for my card, default instance == instance 0 is the acphy0 (the fiber port),
instance 1 is acphy1 (RJ45 port), and instance 2 is the internal 10 Mbit
only phy, that seems not to be connected.

If nobody objects, I would remove the test altogether, as proposed in my
earlier e-mail.
