Very good point. I withdraw my suggestion that ping, traceroute, et al
use the current system TTL as their default TTL.
It would be nice though if ping at least, and maybe traceroute too,
printed a warning if the number of hops to the remote target appears to
be larger than the current value of the net.inet.ip.ttl sysctl....
