   So, I *think* I fixed the problem today. At least my reliable method
   of triggering this (synchronizing a NFS mailbox in mutt) doesn't make
   the driver hang again.

I applied your patches and, for twelve hours now, my machine has been
running without a hitch.  If you don't hear from me about this again, assume
the patch has fixed the hangs.
