if_gif isn't the only one, I think there are others (like ppp) too.
I asked for cloning support to be pulled up, because it makes pullup of
of if_vlan easier (and so less error-prone). I'm not sure we want to touch
working code just for this. It's a cool feature but we can live without
it :)
