Did you use a kernel with FFS_EI?  If not, the filesystem's endianness
has to match your host's.  I don't know which NetBSD port you were
using, so I don't know that endianness, and while I know Ultrix existed
for LE hardware, I think Ultrix might have existed for BE hardware too,
so I don't know the filesystem's endianness.

As for Linux, I don't know their FFS implementation.  It may, for all I
know, and to speak analogically, have FFS_EI permanently turned on.
