New to OS Development—Which NetBSD GSoC Project Is Right for a Beginner?

Hello NetBSD Kernel Team,

I am interested in contributing to NetBSD through GSoC 2025. I have recently begun learning about operating systems and am excited to work on open-source projects for hands-on experience.

I am considering two project ideas: Emulating Missing Linux Syscalls and Making a Network Driver MPSAFE. Both seem challenging and interesting, but as someone new to operating systems, I am unsure which would be a better fit for my current skill level and where my efforts would be most helpful. I wrote to tech-net%netbsd.org@localhost two days ago about the network driver project but haven’t received feedback yet.

Could you please advise which project would be more suitable for a beginner, or where guidance and resources might be more accessible? Any tips or recommendations on how to get started would mean a lot.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,

Shreyas Jadhav
