That's forcing fsck (fortunately in read-only mode) on a mounted
and possibly active filesystem ?

That would be my expected outcome. While fsck on the active filesystem
reports errors caused by the transient state of the disk, doing it on
the synced, clean filesystem shows that there is no real error.
